New Education Minister announced by new Prime Minister

Former Social Services Minister Dan Tehan has been appointed by new Prime Minister Scott Morrison as the new Minister for Education.

Dan Tehan has been the Minister for Social Services since December 2017, the Department responsible for many aspects of the new Child Care Subsidy.

Since 2015, “Early Childhood and Child Care” has been within the Department of Education. It is not yet clear whether this will change.

After the new Prime Minister was suddenly elevated to the role of Prime Minister after an internal battle within the Liberal Party, including a number of high-profile resignations, a change in the Ministry was inevitable.

The previous Education Minister, Simon Birmingham, has been appointed the new Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment. His role at the Department of Education began in September 2015, and saw him oversee the legislation and implementation of the Jobs for Families Package, now referred to as the New Child Care Package.
