Beyond Blue and the Australian Government has launched Be You, a new mental health initative focused on schools and the early childhoods sector.
Be You launches today, and marks the formal end of the previous KidsMatter program. Resources and expertise from that program has been incorporated into the new initiative.
Be You features a range of online professional learning and development for education professionals, and is targeted at addressing the high rates of mental health and wellbeing issues present in Australia’s children.
According to Be You, One in seven young people aged between four and 17 has experienced a mental health issue in the past 12 months.
Developed by Beyond Blue in partnership with delivery partners Early Childhood Australia and headspace, Be You is available for free to all 24,000 early learning services, primary and secondary schools in Australia.
Be You promotes mental health and wellbeing, from the early years to 18 years, and offers educators and learning communities evidence-based online professional learning, complemented by a range of tools and resources to turn learning into action.
The new program was formally launched by former Prime Minister and current Chair of Beyond Blue Julia Gillard, who said: “Half of all lifelong mental health issues emerge before the age of 14. We can help change this with prevention and early intervention. And by supporting the amazing principals, teachers and early learning professionals who spend so much time with our children and young people.
“Providing educators with the tools to foster resilience, and social and emotional wellbeing, is an investment in everyone’s future because mentally healthy kids learn better.”
